Barramundi

Barra range in size from 2kg - 10kg. can reach over 30kg.
Minimum legal length of catch in the Northern Territory is 55 cm . Barra are
spawned as male and upon reaching approximately 6 kg are usually all female and
important breeding stock.
Barramundi occupy the warmer waters of estuary
systems in the north of Australia living in both salt and fresh waters. They can
be found in sea waters, estuaries, tidal creeks, inland tidal areas, rivers and
billabongs with an attraction to submerged timber, rock bars and other snaggy
areas. In late summer they travel from fresh to salt water to spawn,
congregating toward river mouths.
Regarded as a true sporting fish with great
fighting ability. Bite is sudden and savage and once hooked barramundi perform
aerobatics and repeated powerful runs for cover of snags. Experience the rush.

Mangrove Jack
Mangrove Jack are considered one of Australia’s
premier sports-fish. Growing to over 16 kilos the average fish caught within the
Northern Territory’s estuary waters is 1 – 4 kilo.
Mangrove jack are a mid water to bottom feeder
that relies on underwater structure to ambush food. Preferred baits include live
fish, dead fish, prawns, yabbies and crustaceans. They are a hard hitting and
hard fighting fish that often elude capture once hooked by swimming into and
around snags. The initial explosive hit, determined fight and not uncommon loss
of a large specimen often leaves the angler in awe of the fishes power.
Mangrove jack are considered an excellent
table fish.
